About Us

Leading Nutrition was founded as a private practice under the name Melbourne Dietetic Centre in 1986 providing individual consulting.

We are constantly adapting our services through liaison and discussion with clients, research and our professional association. Our aim is to consistently excel at meeting the needs of our customers.

Cathy Thesing took over as chief dietitian and director in November 2002. Since then Leading Nutrition has grown into Melbourne’s largest private practice by providing specialized services to aged care facilities, hospitals, state and local government, institutions and businesses, large and small as well as maintaining its individual client care. Leading Nutrition now offers aged care nutrition and dietetic consulting and food services across Australia.

Our clinical services for hospitals are based on clinical care and education of the patient. We ensure optimal nutrition whilst the patient is hospitalized and follow up and education clinical staff as well as food services.

For aged care our “model of care” embraces individual resident assessment, educational support for all levels of staff and family members. It is a holistic approach that provides our customers with a complete service.

Menu reviews and food services cater for the needs of the customer and cover the special dietary needs of individuals with various conditions.

Educational presentations are required for many customers. These may be required and requested to assist nursing staff, food service staff, support staff and to facilitate and support doctors with specialized information.

Individual consulting forms the backbone of our work. For staff it is highly enjoyable and professionally fulfilling role to assist our clients achieve their personalised goals.

As Melbourne’s largest group of private practice dietitians we are proudly full time private practitioners, offering a wider variety of skills and expertise and geographic access and availability.

All of our dietitians are Accredited Practising Dietitians (APD) and members of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA). Leading Nurition and all of its dietitians have professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Many are Department of Veterans Affairs and Health Insurance Commission registered, allowing both veterans and people involved in an Enhanced Primary Care plan to be seen.
